Where Can I Serve?

Mission Outreach Opportunities

Help Your Neighbor Sundays at SHUMC are focused on local and global mission projects and we incorporate hands-on mission activities for the whole family into our worship hour, held on the first Sunday of each month at 11:00 AM.  Anyone can join in and work together with other neighbors to make our community and our world a better place.

Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA) is a church-related voluntary organization providing rental assistance, day care, food, furniture, and other services to low-income families.  Sleepy Hollow UMC supports ACCA with year-round donations of canned and dry food.  You can help!  Drop off your donations at the church in the plastic bins at the Sanctuary Entrance.
Go to ACCA’s website for more information:  https://accacares.org

Bailey’s Shelter & Supportive Housing is a multi-service facility that houses both a shelter program and permanent supportive housing.  We support the shelter year-round by collecting travel-size toiletries and packing them into individual hygiene kits.  You can drop off your donations at the church in the plastic bins at the Sanctuary Entrance.  You can also help pack the kits and deliver them to the shelter.

For two or three weeks each winter, SHUMC hosts the shelter’s hypothermia overflow shelter.  Shelter guests stay at the church overnight and church volunteers can prepare hot meals, serve food and provide snacks, fruit and bottled water. Donations of new socks, gloves, warm hats and coats are welcome.

There are many volunteer opportunities at the shelter.  Go to the shelter website for more information:  https://www.newhopehousing.org/our-services/shelters/baileys-shelter-supportive-housing/

Mason District Police Department serves our community to reduce crime, address traffic concerns and improve quality of life.  Sleepy Hollow UMC supports our police officers by praying for them, and by providing coffee (K-cup pods), individually wrapped snacks and bottled water.  You can drop off donations at the church in the plastic bins at the Sanctuary Entrance.  Go to the MDPD website for more information:  https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/district/mason
